Movie Reviews

A while ago, I promised reviews of The Manchurian Candidate and Collateral. Here we go:

The Manchurian Candidate starts off promising, but falters under the weight of its plot in the lategoing. Glenn Close and Denzel Washington all give quality, award-winning performances. The direction of Demme, which I normally enjoy, was uneven and depended quite a bit on close-up shots where the actors are speaking directly to the camera as if it were another actor. Like I said, I enjoyed it until the lengthy, unbelievable unending.

Although I don't see many movies at the theater, I feel safe saying that Collateral is one of this year's best. While the plot is a little thin, the acting and directing more than make up for it. Michael Mann is a genius who uses lighting and handheld cameras better than almost anyone in the business. This movie is more about mood than anything else. I've considered Tom Cruise to be a quality actor since he carried Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man and he certainly delivers here. Jamie Foxx may get some nominations for his performance, as well. Don't miss this one. Daddy like.

Reproduction

Are couples that have more than 2 children being selfish considering the world's resources?

Brittany Murphy

What studio exec thought that this girl could carry a movie? This movie's gonna disappear faster than custom rims at a rap concert. "Little Black Book"? Methinks not.

Work?

If I hadn't resigned from my teaching job this past spring, I would be starting back to work today. To celebrate my career change, I'll be spending today in the backyard smoking up some BBQ and having a few beverages, maybe even a cigar. While some people might consider this as torture; I can think of few ways that I'd rather spend a day at home.
